What this site is

This site collects practical information about PCS moves in one place: a checklist, the choice between on-base and off-base housing, how the basic allowance for housing works, moving with children and moving overseas. It is written for service members, spouses and the relatives who help them.

What this site is not

It is not an official source. It is not run by, endorsed by or affiliated with the Department of Defense, any military service, any installation, any moving company or any housing provider. It does not sell moving, housing or advertising services, and it does not arrange moves.

Please do not treat anything here as an order, a regulation or legal, tax or financial advice. Entitlements and procedures depend on your orders, your rank, your family situation and the rules of your service, and they change. Your transportation office, finance office, housing office, legal assistance office and command have the final word.

How the articles are written

Articles describe general rules and common practice and name official sources where they exist, for example Military OneSource, the Department of Defense and the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission. Where something differs by location or changes every year, the text says so and sends you to the official source instead of printing numbers that could be wrong. For that reason you will not find housing allowance rates on this site.

Independence

The site has no connection to any directory, base guide or publication that may have used a similar name in the past. It does not collect personal details from visitors. See the privacy page for what happens with technical data.

Corrections

Military rules change, and so can the details in an article. If something looks outdated, check it against the official source linked on the same page before you act on it.
